Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Do you ever get tired of hearing the phrase “just follow your heart”? I sure do. The world around us is shouting it in our ears and forcing it down our throats. We turn on the TV and we see people following their hearts, ruining their lives and the lives of those around them. Last night I watched a movie about a young Christan couple. He won her heart by respecting her, waiting till marriage to consummate the marriage, writing her a song, and building her a little chapel where they could later marry. He didn’t do this because she asked him to but because he loved her and was doing what he could to win her. It was a beautiful love story and there was a narrator quoting scripture during the move. It was lovely but, it’s not over… This man has a job that keeps him away months at a time. Unfortunately, he got distracted by his deceitful and desperately wicked heart and fell into sin. This was his choice and another woman’s pleading (Proverbs 7:21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.) It literally made me sick to my stomach! I understand this is a movie with fictional characters but, how much of this is going on today. Because of him following his heart, he not only brought heartache to himself but, also to his wife, two children, the one he cheated with and to their families. Yikes!!
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Don’t follow your heart! Follow the Lord! Don’t trust you heart! Trust the Lord! Proverbs 3:5, 6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. These verses are completely opposite from the world’s thinking. Trust the LORD with all your HEART! The Lord is willing to direct us but, are we willing to follow Him? It will save you and those around you A LOT of heartache, pain and tears.
God loves you so much!! Just trust Him!!
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
